She-Hulk Visits the West Coast ‘To Die and Live in L.A.’ in New Epic Collection

It’s a lot less serious and depressing than William Friedkin’s neo-noir film from 1985 To Live and Die in L.A., but She-Hulk’s reverse-titled Epic Collection and storyline is the last solo series we would see from the Jade Giantess for some time.

The She-Hulk: To Die and Live in L.A. Epic Collection covers the end of her monthly series and various appearances from 1993 to 2002.

The Sensational She-Hulk #51-60, written by Scott Benson, Michael Eury, Len Kaminski, with art by Tom Morgan, Todd Britton, Mike DeCarlo, Darren Auck, Patrick Olliffe, Dave Cockrum, Fred Fredericks, Sholly Fisch, Dennis Jensen, Barb Kaalberg, Scott Benson, and Steve Montano, ends the irreverent title with her wild trip to L.A., the afterlife, and back.

1996’s four-issue Doc Samson series features a new red body suit for Leonard and a team-up with the She-Hulk in what may be a record for creators involved in a four issue series. The talent line up for Doc Samson includes writers Dan Slott and Evan Skolnick and artists Ken Lashley, Tom Wegrzyn, Art Nichols, Steve Geiger, Roberto Flores, Jaime Mendoza, Robert Hedden, Dan Panosian, Andrew Wildman, Ralph Cabrera, Brad Vancata, and Joe Bennett. Slott would later bring back She-Hulk for her next solo series in 2004.

Peter David (who would also write an extended run on She-Hulk) brings in Bruce’s cousin for a guest appearance, and a two-issue headlining stint, in The Incredible Hulk #412, 441-442. Art over the course of the three issues is provided by Paul Pelletier and Cam Smith and Angel Medina and Robin Riggs.

Two rarities in the collection are Todd Dezago, Bryan Hitch, Ivan Reis, and Paul Neary’s former Fantastic Four teammates one-shot Thing and She-Hulk: The Long Night and a four-issue story from Marvel Comics Presents #123-126 by Kelly Corvese, Dave Hoover, and Robert Campanella, pitting Shulkie vs. the rarely seen Nosferata.

The She-Hulk: To Die and Live in L.A. Epic Collection consists of 480 pages for a suggested retail price of $44.99,
