‘Marvel: May 1965’ Omnibus Celebrates 60th Anniversary of Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D

Marvel Comics continues their snapshots from particular years in comic history with the new Marvel: May 1965 Omnibus.

The two big events back in May of 1965 were Nick Fury’s transformation from Howling Commando to super spy in Strange Tales #135 and the start of the Silver Age solo adventures of Namor the Submariner in Tales to Astonish #70.

Other issues released in May of 1965 included in the Omnibus are The Uncanny X-Men #12, Journey Into Mystery #118, Patsy and Hedy #101, Rawhide Kid #47, Fantastic Four #41, The Amazing Spider-Man #27, The Avengers #18, Tales of Suspense #68, Sgt. Fury #20, Daredevil #9, Modeling with Millie #40, Patsy Walker #122, Kid Colt Outlaw #124, Two-Gun Kid #77, and Millie the Model #130.

All stories are written by Stan Lee, Al Hartley, and Larry Lieber, with art by Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Al Hartley, Stan Goldberg, Dick Ayers, Don Heck, Steve Ditko, Larry Lieber, Jack Keller, Alex Toth, Wally Wood, Bob Powell, Gene Colan (as Adam Austin), Sol Brodsky, Frank Giacoia, Vince Colletta, Mike Esposito (as Mickey Demeo), and Carl Hubbell.

In addition to all of the Silver Age comics, the May 1965 Omnibus also includes an introduction by Marc Guggenheim and article by John Morrow and Stan Lee.

Marvel: May 1965 Omnibus consists of 496 pages for a suggested retail price of $100.00.

  1. What a time to be able to read comics! Marvel was shifting into high gear and reach most of the kids in the nation for a change!
