Deathlok Gets the Spotlight in ‘Deathlok 50th Anniversary Special’

Cult-favorite Marvel character Deathlok turns 50 in 2024 and gets his very own 50th Anniversary Special this September.

The Deathlok 50th Anniversary Special (in stores on September 18) is a giant-sized one-shot written by Christopher Priest and Justina Ireland, with art by Denys Cowan, Dale Eaglesham, Matthew Waite, and Luke Ross.

Ireland is excited to get the chance to bring the dystopian world of Deathlok to the masses, and said “I’m always excited and humbled to write anything in the Marvel universe, but Deathlok as a character is especially important to me because as a U.S. Army veteran, his origin story really resonates in a horrifying way. So I’m excited to dig into the emotional core of what makes Deathlok so unique, while also having some fun.”

Deathlok the Demolisher debuted in Astonishing Tales #25 and was created by Rich Buckler and Doug Moench. The killer cyborg’s adventures would last until issue #36 in 1976. Deathlok became a mainstay in team-up comics and guest starred in a number of Marvel titles before the character got his own mini-series in 1990, which spun directly into a 34-issue series, started by Cowan and Dwayne McDuffie.
