‘Death in the Family’ and ‘The Cult’ Featured in New Batman DC Finest Edition

Two classic Batman storylines from the late 1980s are the main event in the new DC Finest: Batman: A Death in the Family Edition.

A Death in the Family collects Batman #423-429, Batman Annual #12, Detective Comics #590-595, and Detective Comics Annual #1, and Batman: The Cult #1-4.

All stories are written by Jim Starlin, Mike Baron, John Wagner, Alan Grant, and Denny O’Neil with art by Dave Cockrum, Mark Bright, Jim Aparo, Ross Andru, Norm Breyfogle, Irv Novick, Klaus Janson, Bernie Wrightson, Mike DeCarlo, Steve Mitchell, Pablo Marcos, Denis Rodier, and Tony DeZuniga.

The world-famous A Death in the Family storyline and the not as widely remembered The Cult prestige format mini-series are collected together for the first time.

The first chapter in the Fables Green Arrow and Question Annual crossover from 1988 is also included in the volume, along with a few other monthly comics that represent the post-Dark Knight Returns reinvention of Batman.

A deluxe edition of A Death in the Family was released in 2021 that featured the original alternative ending to the series where Jason Todd lived. The same material was later published in a new facsimile edition in 2023.

The Cult was rereleased in a deluxe hardcover format in 2024, after being out-of-print for more than a decade.

DC Finest: Batman: A Death in the Family consists of 640 pages for a suggested retail price of $39.99.
