The first X-Men crossover event collection returns this December, as the X-Men: Mutant Massacre Omnibus will once again be available for purchase.
The nearly year-long storyline (which began in 1986 and concluded in 1987) involved Sabretooth and the Marauders “massacring” the underground dwelling mutants known as the Morlocks, resulting in the combined forces of the X-Men, X-Factor and New Mutants uniting to halt the mutant genocide (and with some additional support from Thor, Daredevil and Power Pack).
The X-Men: Mutant Massacre Omnibus collects Uncanny X-Men #210-219, X-Men Annual #11, X-Factor #9-17, X-Factor Annual #2, New Mutants #46, Thor #373-374, 377-378, Power Pack #27, Daredevil #238, as well as two high profile, is unrelated, mini-series from the era: Fantastic Four vs. the X-Men #1-4 and X-Men vs. the Avengers #1-4.
Chris Claremont, Louise Simonson, Jo Duffy, Walt Simonson, Ann Nocenti, and Roger Stern handle the writing duties in the collection, with a plethora of artists such as John Romita, Jr., Rick Leonardi, Alan Davis, Barry Windsor-Smith, Jackson Guice, Marc Silvestri, Bret Blevins, Terry Shoemaker, Joe Rubinstein, Walt Simonson, David Mazzucchelli, Tom Grindberg, Sal Buscema, Jon Bogdanove, Bob Wiacek, Paul Neary, Dan Green, Bret Blevins, Steve Leialoha, Kyle Baker, Al Gordon, Al Williamson, Joe Rubinstein, and Terry Austin adding the visuals.
The new edition consists of 952 pages with a $125 price tag ($25 more than the original omnibus’ 2018 price of $100). The X-Men: Mutant Massacre Omnibus will be available at your local comic shop on December 28, with two covers featuring the original artwork from Uncanny X-Men #210 (by Romita Jr.) and Uncanny X-Men #213 (by Davis) respectively.
