Jamie Foxx Returning as Electro in ‘Spider-Man 3’

Is this the start of a live-action Spiderverse?

Jamie Foxx, who played Electro in the reviled post-Tobey Maguire and pre-Tom Holland Spider-Man film The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is reportedly ready to return to the role in the third Sony/Marvel Spider-Man collaboration.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news today that Foxx will be sending electric shocks Tom Holland’s way in the near future (the third film is tentatively scheduled for November 5, 2021) and also raised some suspicions that this may be the second move toward a Spiderverse-style live action film, if not a further set-up for a full blown Marvel Cinematic multiverse.

The first move towards this concept occurred in Spider-Man Far From Home with the return of J.K. Simmons’ J. Jonah Jameson at the end of the film. Simmons immortalized the role of the cigar-chomping curmudgeon in Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy way back in 2002.
