‘Dune: Part Two’ Adds Spice to Weekend Box Office

Dune: Part Two is off to an excellent start at the box office (and with critics) with an estimated $81 million at the weekend box office.

The sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel began the weekend with an opening day gross of $32.1 million (including $12 million for Thursday night screenings).

The first Dune film (which debuted simultaneously on HBO Max) brought in only $40 million in its first weekend.

Dune: Part Two has been a hit with both critics and fans, garnering a current score of 94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” from those polled after seeing the film by CinemaScore.

With another estimated $43 million from international markets, Dune: Part Two will end its worldwide box office for its first weekend with close to $165 million. If the film can continue to pack theaters, look for the sequel to eclipse the original’s cume of $402 million worldwide.
