One of the new heroes to be introduced by Marvel in the speculation age of comics (when anything with the word “dark” or “hawk” in the title was a potential sell out) was none other than the armored teenage hero Darkhawk.
Marvel Comics will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the character this April with the giant-size one-shot entitled Darkhawk: Heart of the Hawk. The anniversary issue will feature three new stories, including one by the original creators of Darkhawk, writer Danny Fingeroth and artist Mike Manley.
Fingeroth is excited to return to his creation (as told to Marvel.com) saying that “It’s an understatement to say that I’m thrilled to team up once again with the great Mike Manley to reveal an untold tale of Darkhawk’s earliest days. Hawkamaniacs are always asking me when we’ll be returning to the character we established, and I’m glad to have the opportunity to once again tap into the Darkhawk magic with Mike. Hope everybody enjoys this new tale of the high-flying, amulet-wielding hero!”
Dan Abnett also returns to the character that he brought back and incorporated into his War of Kings saga back in 2009. Abnett will team up with artist Andrea Di Vito for a brand new cosmic adventure, saying that he had forgot “… what a great, lonely, determined hero he was. I also love the fact that this special reflects the different ages of Darkhawk’s thirty-year odyssey, bringing back creators who created him and helped shape him through every stage of his adventures.”
Last but far from least, Kyle Higgins will bring Darkhawk into the current Marvel Universe with his tale, and he is “…incredibly honored and excited for the opportunity to build a story that both celebrates what Danny, Mike, Dan and so many other fantastic creators have built over the last thirty years… while also setting course for the future.”
