Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez’s ‘Batman’ #1 Sells Over 500,000 Copies

The new Batman series by Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez has sold over 500,000 copies, making it the most successful comic launch of the year, with more bat sales on the way.

Batman #1 is headed back to the Gotham factory for a second printing (arriving in stores on October 15) with a recolored Batman logo on Jiménez’s original cover for issue #1, a new cardstock variant cover by Jiménez and Tomeu Morey, and a new cardstock and foil variant by Dan Mora.

Fraction and Jiménez’s runaway hit, the fourth renumbering for DC’s Batman comic book series in the title’s 84-year history, features a reimagined Gotham City, a new Batmobile, and a redesigned blue-and-gray costume.

Sales for Batman #1 were also helped by the “Blind as a Bat” polybag special edition (which includes one foil variant cover of the standard variants by Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri and Arif Prianto, J. Scott Campbell, Frank Quitely, Gabriele Dell’Otto, Julian Totino Tedesco, Andy Kubert, and David Aja) and the Giant-Size Special Edition of Batman #1 (in both a standard card stock main cover and a foil variant).

While the issue is sold out at the distribution level, the comic may still be available at your local comic shop, and you may be able to pick up a copy on Batman Day on Saturday, September 20 (along with a number of special Batman day-themed comics).
