Journey back to the halcyon days of the mid-80s when there was only one symbiote and Peter Parker had to find a way to get rid of that versatile and pesky living costume.
Spider-Man: The Complete Black Costume Saga collects the entire tale (only missing out on Secret Wars #8 for the first appearance of the costume) in The Amazing Spider-Man #252-263, The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #18, Marvel Team-Up #141-150, Marvel Team-Up Annual #7, Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #90-100, Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual #4, and Web of Spider-Man #1.
A host of Spidey-talent is included in the collection, with writing by Tom DeFalco, Al Milgrom, David Michelinie, Louise Simonson, Cary Burkett, Tony Isabella, Bill Mantlo, Stan Lee, Bob Layton, Roger Stern, Christopher Priest, and Bob DeNatale, and art by Ron Frenz, Greg LaRocque, Milgrom, Rick Leonardi, Paul Neary, Herb Trimpe, Bret Blevins, Bob Layton, David Mazzucchelli, Kerry Gammill, Sal Buscema, Ron Randall, Brett Breeding, Mike Esposito, Jim Mooney, Bill Anderson, Joe Rubinstein, Sam de la Rosa, Carlos Garzon, Jackson “Butch” Guice, Geof Isherwood, John Beatty, and Vince Colletta.
The black costume gave Spidey a needed shot in the arm sales wise as the focus shifted to the trials and tribulations of the too-good-to-be-true suit and villains new and old such as the Rose, Black Fox, Red Ghost, Jack O’ Lantern, Puma, the Vulture, and the Blob.
The Omnibus also marks the end of the Marvel Team-Up era, making way for a third solo series by the name of the Web of Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: The Complete Black Costume Saga consists of 992 pages for a suggested retail price of $125.00.
