Mark Gruenwald’s over 140 issue run on Captain America continues in a brand new Omnibus.
The Captain America by Mark Gruenwald Omnibus Vol. 2 collects Captain America #351-386, Captain America Annual #9-10, Adventures of Captain America #1-4, Daredevil Annual #7, and The Punisher Annual #4.
In addition to Gruenwald, the collection also contains writing by Roy Thomas, Dann Thomas, D. G. Chichester, Fabian Nicieza, Gregory Wright, and Mike Baron, and art by Kieron Dwyer, Al Milgrom, Rich Buckler, Ron Lim, Danny Bulanadi, Chris Marinnan, D. Hedd, Jim Valentino, Sam DeLaRosa, Mike Manley, Rick Parker, Kevin Maguire, Jackson “Butch” Guice, and Tom Morgan.
The stories begin with Cap having taken back his rights as the original super soldier from John Walker and he gets right back to business fighting the Supreme Soviets (alongside fellow patriot, Nick Fury). From there, Steve battles Mother Night’s camp of hate and begins the six part Bloodstone Hunt, as Baron Zemo steals the infamous Bloodstone from the skeleton of adventurer Ulysses Bloodstone.
The originally bi-weekly, seven-part “Streets of Poison” storyline sees Steve Rogers get an accidental overdose of the new drug named “Ice” that combines with his Super-Soldier Serum and makes the normally cool and collected Cap a raging lunatic. “Streets of Poison” contains guest appearances by Daredevil, the Black Widow, and Diamondback, as Rogers contends with the Red Skull, the Kingpin, Crossbones, and Bullseye and the disastrous effects of the drug at the same time.
The star-spangled Avenger also celebrates his 50th anniversary and looks back at his past in the four-issue Adventures of Captain America mini-series. Other highlights in the collection include the first appearance of John Walker as U.S.Agent, showdowns with the Serpent Society, the Watchdogs, Batroc, Crossbones, The Submariner, The Controller, Magneto, and the Red Skull, with assists from partner/girlfriend Diamondback all along the way.
The Omnibus also contains Part One of “The Terminus Factor” summer annual crossover and the entire “Von Strucker Gambit” summer annual crossover with Daredevil and the Punisher.
The Captain America by Mark Gruenwald Omnibus Vol. 1 was released in 2024.
The Omnibus consists of 1,288 pages for a suggested retail price of $150.00.
