The start of Mark Gruenwald’s over 140 issue run on Captain America gets a brand new Omnibus in July.
The Captain America by Mark Gruenwald Omnibus Vol. 1 collects Captain America #307-350 and Captain America Annual #8 by the writer and artists Kieron Dwyer, Mike Harris, Tom Morgan, Paul Neary, Mike Zeck, and Dave Hunt.
Other crossover and Cap-adjacent issues are also included in the Omnibus such as Amazing Spider-Man #278 (featuring a Scourge/Hobgoblin incident by Tom DeFalco, Peter David, Mary Jo Duffy, Mike Harris, and Vince Colletta), Iron Man #228 (yet another disagreement between Steve and Tony by David Michelinie, Mark Bright, and Bob Layton), and all of the Captain America stories of the time period from Marvel Fanfare #26, 29, 31-32 (by Will Jungkuntz, John Buscema, Ian Akin, and Brian Garvey, Norm Breyfogle, and J.M. DeMatteis, Kerry Gammill, and Dennis Janke).
Mark Gruenwald’s decade-long run includes battles against Madcap, Flag-Smasher, the newly formed Serpent Society, M.O.D.O.K, the Super-Patriot, and the Scourge of the Underworld. The government also decides to replace Steve Rogers as Captain America in the late 1980s, leading to the new black, red, and white look, plenty of U.S. Agent drama, and a suitable stopping place for the collection in issue #350’s final showdown over who will be left standing with the title of “Captain America”.
Cap also receives plenty of assists from the Falcon, Nomad, and D-Man along the way.
The Captain America by Mark Gruenwald Omnibus Vol. 1 consists of 1336 pages for a suggested retail price of $150.
The first volume will be released on July 17.
