‘Kraven the Hunter’ Dies at Weekend Box Office

Well, this actually may be “Kraven’s Last Hunt”.

Box office receipts for Sony’s latest Spider-Man villain movie were less hopeful to executives than Kraven’s shot gun blast at the end of the seminal graphic novel, with only an estimated $11 million for the film’s opening weekend.

Kraven the Hunter made less than any previous Sony-produced Spidey tale, falling below Madame Web’s abysmal $15 million opening weekend.

In even worse news for Kraven (and Sony), unlike Madame Web‘s February release date (which eventually grossed $43.8 million domestically and $100 million worldwide), the box office is currently packed with mega hits like Wicked and Moana 2 (with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on the way), cutting back on screens and Kraven’s shelf life.

Kraven was not helped by critics, or ticket buyers for that matter. Kraven the Hunter’s current score on Rotten Tomatoes sits at 15%, with a Cinemascore of “C” (Madame Web scored a “C+”).

According to a report on the Wrap, Sony may finally be pivoting away from villain-led films, in favor of creating their own Spider-Man live action universe.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse can’t get her soon enough to wash the taste of Kraven the Hunter from Sony’s palate.
