Dark Horse and Marvel Comics New ‘Bullpen Books: The Art of Fantastic Four’ Showcases Jack Kirby’s Art

Marvel Comics and Dark Horse Books continue their Bullpen Books series of oversized, hardcover Marvel art books with Jack Kirby’s The Art of Fantastic Four.

Jack “The King” Kirby’s Bullpen Books close-up contains examples of Kirby’s artwork from his run on The Fantastic Four from 1961 to 1970 and includes complete stories from issues #60, #71, #82, and #83, and Fantastic Four Annual #6.

The Art of the Fantastic Four includes reproduced archival scans of Kirby’s artwork, along with essays and commentary from editor-designer team Ian Chalgren and John Lind.

“Reading these complete issues of Fantastic Four from Kirby’s original art gives fans rare access to the imagination and innovation of the most influential creator in comic book history,” said Chalgren. “Presenting these pages in an oversized 10″ x 14″ format allows readers to enjoy Kirby’s dynamic line work and storytelling, which played a key role in defining the Marvel Age of comics. We assembled Bullpen Books The Art of the Fantastic Four to be a celebration and a resource—a source of inspiration, a tool for study, and a tribute to the legacy of Jack Kirby’s work.”

The first Bullpen Book featured John Romita Sr. and Gil Kane’s Spider-Man artwork in The Art of the Amazing Spider-Man edition.

The Art of Fantastic Four will be available at local comic shop on September 24 and consists of 200 pages for a suggested retail price of $59.99.
