New York City is a ‘Big Apple Battleground’ in ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Epic Collection

Plenty of villains seek to take a bite out of the Big Apple in the latest Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection, but Spidey is there to protect NYC.

The Amazing Spider-Man: Big Apple Battleground Epic Collection contains stories for 1977 to 1978 in The Amazing Spider-Man #165-185, The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #11-12, Nova #12, and artwork from the Mighty Marvel Calendar’s 1978 edition.

All of the stories are written by Len Wein, Bill Mantlo, Archie Goodwin, and Marv Wolfman, with the majority of the art by Ross Andru, Mike Esposito, Frank Giacoia, and Jim Mooney on the monthly issues, and Sal Buscema, Gerry Conway, Al Milgrom, Jack Kirby, John Romita, Sr., John Buscema, Gene Colan, Gil Kane, Tony DeZuniga, Bob McLeod, and Don Perlin on the annuals and pin-ups.

Peter has his hands full in the Big Apple with yet another J. Jonah Jameson smear campaign that appears to have discovered the wall crawler’s secret identity, not to mention all of his rogues gallery on the loose such as Stegron and the Lizard (who team up for a Christmas-themed reptile battle), the Green Goblin (in a five part maniacal storyline), Doctor Faustus, the Molten Man, Rocket Racer, Will-O’-the-Wisp  Silvermane, White Dragon, Photon, and the Punisher and the Hitman (a two-part story that gives the Epic Collection its title).

Amazing Spider-Man Annual #12 goes back to the classic reprint format with two battles with the Incredible Hulk from Amazing Spider-Man #119 and 120, attempting to capitalize on Spidey and the Hulk’s new TV stardom in 1978).

The Amazing Spider-Man: Big Apple Battleground Epic Collection contains 520 pages for a suggested retail price of $49.99.
