Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure celebrated Jack Kirby’s birthday with a new permanent plaque honoring “The King’s” contributions to comics and pop culture.
Born in New York on August 28, 1917, Kirby is a Disney Legend a
Avengers Campus unveiled the plaque on Kirby’s 109th birthday (who was born in New York City on August 28, 1917), inscribed with the Kirby quote: “If you look at my characters, you will find me. No matter what kind of character you create or assume, a little of yourself must remain there.”
The private unveiling ceremony was attended by new Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics Stephen Wacker, Brent Davies (Vice President, Disney California Adventure Park), Brent Strong (Executive Creative Director, Walt Disney Imagineering), and members of the Kirby family.
“Jack Kirby’s work continues to remind us that heroes can come from anywhere,” Davies told the crowd.
The plaque can be found near the entrance to Avengers Campus (which also includes examples of the famous “Kirby Krackle” throughout the area’s architecture).
Kirby’s creative partner Stan Lee received a similar monument/plaque at Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park in 2022.
Kirby was also honored in his home town earlier this year with a street sign co-naming Essex and Delancey streets as “Jack Kirby Way.”
