‘Alpha Flight by Bill Mantlo and Jim Lee’ Omnibus Emerges from the Great White North

The work of Bill Mantlo, and the first Marvel work by Jim Lee, is appropriately highlighted in the new Alpha Flight by Bill Mantlo and Jim Lee Omnibus.

The Omnibus basically amounts to the second Alpha Flight Omnibus collection and picks ups right after Volume 1, which was also titled with the guiding creative force in mind for the Alpha Flight Omnibus by John Byrne.

The new Omnibus collects Alpha Flight #30-70, Alpha Flight Annual #1-2, Avengers #272, and Marvel Fanfare #28 written by Mantlo, with a few issues by James D. Hudnall and Roger Stern.

Even though his name graces the cover, Lee only contributes art to 11 issues in the Omnibus, with additional art by Mike Mignola, John Bogdanove, Sal Buscema, David Ross, June Brigman, Craig Basfield, Terry Shoemaker, June Brigman, Jim Lee, Hugh Haynes, John Calimee, Larry Stroman, John Buscema, Ken Steacy, Gerry Talaoc, Whilce Portacio, Steve Purcell, Steve Leialoha, Hilery Barta, Tony DeZuniga, Al Milgrom, Mike Gustovich, Don Hudson, Sam Delarosa, Bob McLeod, and Tom Palmer.

The stories (originally published between 1986 and 1989) see Alpha Flight establish a new headquarters in the technologically advanced Mansion Alpha, led by Heather Hudson as the new Vindicator. The Canadian superhero team faces threats like Scramble, Deadly Ernest, the Great Beasts, Attuma, the Purple Girl, Loki, Bedlam, Lady Deathstrike, the Sentinels and more.

The team also collaborates with allies across the border such as the Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine, and the Avengers.

The Alpha Flight by Bill Mantlo and Jim Lee Omnibus consists of 1,192 pages for a suggested retail price of $125.00.
