Skybound Entertainment/Image Comics and Universal Products & Experiences add another Universal Monster to their gallery in the upcoming Universal Monsters: The Phantom of the Opera, a new four-issue comic book series from Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds.
The Phantom of the Opera comic series (in stores in February) follows the same formula as the previous Skybound/Image Comics, honoring the original films and adding new modern twists.
“What separates the Phantom of the Opera from the other Universal Monsters is that it’s the only ghost story of the lot,” said Tyler Boss. “With the Paris Opera House as our haunted site, and a production of Faust about to be performed, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect collaborator to breathe life into the Phantom of the Opera than Martin Simmonds.”
“I’m very excited to be returning to the world of the Universal Monsters for The Phantom of the Opera, this time alongside Tyler Boss, and there’s no better setting for our supernatural horror story than the beautiful architecture of the Paris Opera House and the streets of early 20th Century Paris,” said Martin Simmonds.
The story involves a young soprano who finds her career in shambles (after the events of the classic film) who may have a disturbing connection to the murders that took place in the Paris Opera House.
Skybound and Universal have previously released four other Universal Monsters series including Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds’ Dracula, Ram V, Dan Watters, and Matthew Roberts’ Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!, Michael Walsh’s Frankenstein, Faith Erin Hicks’ The Mummy, and Tynion IV and DANI’s The Invisible Man.
