‘The Mighty Thor: Thor War’ Epic Collection Highlights the Eric Masterson Thor Era

From the era when Marvel was trying out new characters in familiar clothes, The Mighty Thor: The Thor War Epic Collection arrives once again for fans of the short-lived Eric Masterson experiment.

The reissue of 2020’s Epic Collection includes issues #437-450 and Annual #16-17 of the original Mighty Thor series, with a key focus on the four part “Thor War” story arc that introduced the Thor Corps to readers in 1991. Masterson teams with Beta Ray Bill and Dargo Ktor, the 26th-century Thunder God, in the ‘Thor War” to face off against one of Thor’s oldest foes, Zarrko the Tomorrow Man.

The vast majority of the writing and art are handled by Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz, and Al Milgrom, as the new kid on the block Eric Masterson tries to get the hang of this Thor business, with some bad advice from Hercules along the way.

The Epic Collection also includes the epic battle with Gladiator of the Imperial Guard in an Operation Galactic Storm crossover, two summer annual installments “The Korvac Quest” (Part 2) and “Citizen Kang” (Part 2), disagreements with the Absorbing Man, Titania, and Spider-Man, as well as the origins of a villain that never really took off: Bloodaxe.

Other Marvel Bullpen talent represented in Thor War includes: Michael Heisler, Roy Thomas, George Caragonne, John Lewandowski, Peter Sanderson, Len Kaminski, Patrick Olliffe, Alex Trimpe, Herb Trimpe, Fred Fredericks, Kevin West, Kirk Jarvinen, Kevin Kobasic, Rich Yanizeski, Gary Hartle, Bob Petrecca, Brad Vancata, Bud LaRosa, Ariane Lenshoek, Ray Kryssing, and Geof Isherwood.

The Mighty Thor: The Thor War Epic Collection consists of 472 pages for a suggested retail price of $39.99. The latest reissue will be in stores on November 16.
