TCM honors Roger Corman, the prolific director and mentor to countless filmmakers, this July with three nights dedicated to his extensive work in genre films.
Corman’s horror, sci-fi, biker, and prison flicks will take over the first three Wednesday nights in July, starting on July 3 at 8:00 PM (all nights begin at 8:00 PM and go past the midnight hour) with X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes (1963), followed in succession by A Bucket of Blood (1959), The Wasp Woman (1959), The Little Shop of Horrors (1960), Creature from the Haunted Sea (1961), Atlas (1961), and Tower of London (1962).
Relive some of Corman’s Edgar Allan Poe collaborations with Vincent Price on July 10 with The Fall of the House of Usher (1960), The Pit and the Pendulum (1961), The Raven (1963), and The Masque of the Red Death (1964). The Poe films will be followed by The Wild Angels (1966) and Bloody Mama (1970).
The final night of programming on July 17 features a number of films produced by Corman and directed by notable filmmakers in the early stages of their careers, featuring Martin Scorsese’s Boxcar Bertha (1972), Peter Bogdanovich’s Targets (1968), Francis Ford Coppola’s Dementia 13 (1963), Jonathan Demme’s Caged Heat (1974), and Joe Dante’s Piranha (1978).
