Superman heads to space to clear his conscience in a collection of late 1980s stories that set the stage for the “Death of Superman” in the reissued Superman: The Exile and Other Stories Omnibus.
The Omnibus collects The Adventures of Superman #445-460, Superman #23-37, Action Comics #643-646, and Action Comics Annual #2.
All stories are written by Jerry Ordway, Dan Jurgens, Roger Stern, Tom Peyer, George Perez, and Keith Giffen, with art by Jurgens, Ordway, Giffen, Perez, Dennis Janke, Mike Mignola, P. Craig Russell, Kerry Gammill, John Beatty, Brett Breeding, Paris Cullins, Curt Swan, John Statema, Art Thibert, Ty Templeton, Klaus Janson, Tim Gula, and Andy Kubert.
The thirteen-part “The Exile” storyline begins when Kal-El leaves Earth after Superman’s Kryptonite execution of General Zod, Quex-Ul, and Zalora, his mind’s tampering by Brainiac, and his questionable behavior as Gangbuster, and sees him venture into space and defend many other worlds besides Earth. “The Exile” arc is also the first time we see Superman in gladiator garb, battling Mongul and other interplanetary foes.
Additional tales include appearances by Lex Luthor, Lois Lane, Mr. Mxyzptlk and the Eradicator, who would go on to play a key role in the post “Death of Superman” era.
“The Exile” storyline was originally collected in 1998. Additional material was added in the first printing of the Omnibus version in 2018.
Superman: The Exile and Other Stories Omnibus consists of 912 pages for a suggested retail price of $125.00.
