‘Silver Surfer: Sun Rise and Shadow Fall Epic Collection’ Completes Longest Running Surfer Series

The Silver Surfer’s twelve year run ends in his latest Epic Collection titled Sun Rise and Shadow Fall.

The stories (from 1998 to 1999) wrap up the second Silver Surfer series (which started in 1987), collecting issues #139-146 and Silver Surfer Wizard #1/2. J.M. DeMatteis, Tom DeFalco,  Roger Cruz, Joe Bennett, Manny Clark, John J. Muth, Denys Cowan, and John Floyd guide the surfer into port in his last seven issues.

In addition to the final issue of the longest running Surfer series (because that would make for a very skimpy Epic Collection), a number of other late 1990s curiosities are included here, in particular Louise Simonson, John Buscema, and Bill Sienkiewicz’s rare six-issue Galactus The Devourer mini-series.

Silver Surfer Annual #1998 (featuring a team-up with Thor by DeFalco, Ramon Bernado, and Mark Pennington) and a retelling of the time Doctor Doom stole the Surfer’s Power Cosmic in Michael Jan Friedman, Sal Velluto, and Steve Geiger’s Silver Surfer: Loftier Than Mortals #1-2 round out the collection.

Silver Surfer: Sun Rise and Shadow Fall consists of 488 pages for a suggested retail price of $44.99.
