Michael Keaton in Talks to Strike Again as Batman in Upcoming DC Movies

If all goes well with current ongoing discussions, Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Batman more than 28 years after his previous performance in Batman Returns. The fan-favorite actor is in talks to appear in It director Andy Muschietti’s upcoming Flash film and future DC film projects.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Warner Bros.’ plan for Keaton is similar to Samuel L. Jackson’s role as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Keaton’s Batman would act as a mentor figure and “string-puller” in a series of DC films and serve as a connective tissue that holds the franchise together. After Flash, Keaton could appear as Batman in an upcoming Batgirl film next.

Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe burst onto the scene, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton redefined the modern superhero blockbuster with 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns. The films were darker than the superhero films which preceded them, and they pulled in boatloads of box office and merchandising revenue.
