First ‘High Republic’ Star Wars Novel ‘Light of the Jedi’ Excerpt Released

With the end of the Skywalker saga and any concrete details about a new Star Wars film franchise seemingly light years away, fans can prepare to step back into the past through the lens of Lucasfilm’s new series of novels and comic books called The High Republic.

And just in case you are ready to board the ship early, the first chapter of Charles Soule’s first novel in the series, Light of the Jedi, can be previewed right now courtesy of IGN.

Light of the Jedi is set some 200 years before the Skywalker saga began and takes place in an era when the Republic and the Jedi Order are at their most stable and heroic, insuring peace through swordplay throughout the galaxy.

Soule (a veteran of several Star Wars Marvel Comic Book properties) described the spoiler free start of the novel to IGN as “The opening beats of Light of the Jedi depict an epic disaster, and a heroic, thrilling response by both the Republic and the Jedi to save lives and end the crisis. It’s just the beginning, though. The Legacy Run disaster kicks off a much larger story; it really is just one piece of a much bigger saga.”

Both Charles Soule’s Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi and Justina Ireland’s YA novel Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage will be released on January 5, 2021. Claudia Gray’s YA novel Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark will be next up on February 2, 2021.

Marvel Comics Star Wars: The High Republic by Cavan Scott was set to debut at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in August 2020, but with the recent cancellation of the event, news on the release date of the new series has yet to be announced.
