Following a successful run by writer Steve Orlando and artist Jesus Merino, the star-spangled member of DC’s trinity will now be written by Mariko Tamaki with art by Mikel Janin. Tamaki and Janin’s new run will start with issue #759, which will go on sale on July 28.
The new story takes place right after Diana picks up the pieces of her life after a harrowing battle against the Four Horsewomen and an encounter with the Phantom Stranger. Not much is known about the focus of Tamaki and Janin’s first story arc, but the return of a classic villain has been hinted at.
Tamaki has been busy in 2020, writing two graphic novels: Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass and Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me, as well as the ongoing Archie series, earning her the honor of being nominated in the Best Writer category for the 2020 Eisner Awards. Tamaki also recently had an extended two year run on one of the most powerful women in the Marvel universe, Jennifer Walters, otherwise known as She-Hulk.
Janin is well-known for his work on Tom King’s Batman issues and just about every other major DC character, including Superman, Justice League Dark, Dick Grayson, and Hal Jordan.
Issue #759 kicks off with a cover by David Marquez (Batman/Superman) and a limited edition cardstock variant cover by Jim Lee. Check out Lee’s cover below and stay tuned for a review of the new series in late July on Conskipper.com.
