‘Eternals’ Reign at Weekend Box Office

Despite a slew of negative reviews and the lowest marks for any MCU film so far, Eternals was still able to conqueror all challengers at the weekend box office.

Chloe Zhao’s sprawling superhero saga earned just over $71 million domestically and an additional $90.7 million internationally. With the Chinese market still looming, Eternals has the chance to add a considerable amount to its overall total over the next few weeks.

Eternals earned a ‘B’ CinemaScore (the lowest of any Marvel film to date) and a surprising 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (although the film did earn an 80% rating from verified ticket buyers). Without a great deal of competition through November, Eternals still has a chance to win over viewers and draw more people to cinemas around the world (and you can check out our review right here).

Last week’s repeat winner Dune, slid down the sand into second place with $7.6 million in its third weekend, for a domestic haul of $83.9 million so far and an excellent $246.5 million overseas. With a new Dune film due in 2023, interest in the film in theaters and on HBO Max should remain high over the next month as well.
