Dwayne Johnson is certainly known for his box office prowess and his larger-than-life persona. He is also a renowned jokester and although Johnson wasn’t intentionally playing a trick on new Black Adam co-star Aldis Hodge (the man who will appear as Hawkman in the upcoming film) thought he was being pranked.
Johnson announced the news to the world (and not just Aldis) by posting a transcript of the call on Instagram.
Hodge is best known for his work on Showtime’s crime drama City on a Hill, where he plays assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward, and for his role in 2020’s Invisible Man. Hodge will also appear in the upcoming One Night in Miami film as one of the best running backs of all time and social activist Jim Brown. One Night in Miami is a fictional account of a actual historical event when a number of sports super stars from the 1960’s such as Brown, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and Muhammad Ali, met with civil rights leader Malcolm X.
Hodge joins Johnson and Noah Centineo (who will play the giant Atom Smasher) in Black Adam. During the recent DC FanDome event, Johnson also revealed that fellow Justice Society members Dr. Fate and Cyclone will also appear in the film (neither of whom have been cast as of yet). Jaume Collet-Serra will direct Black Adam from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.
Black Adam was originally slated to start production this past summer for a December 2021 release. As of now, the production has not started on the DC film, and the release date (like all other blockbuster films currently on studio’s schedules) will most likely be delayed.
