David F. Walker and Dave Watcher Named as Creative Team on Marvel’s New ‘Planet of the Apes’ Series

David F. Walker and Dave Wachter usher in a new era for Marvel’s Planet of the Apes license with a brand new ongoing series this April.

Walker is particularly excited about writing the first story arc, as “Not only is Planet of the Apes my favorite film franchise, it was my favorite series of comics from Marvel when I was a kid. Both the films and the comics ignited my imagination and helped me fall in love with the art of storytelling. To be part of Marvel’s return to the Planet of the Apes is more than an honor, it is a childhood dream come true.”

The first storyline called “Devolution” examines the effects of the ALZ-113 virus on a worldwide scale, with humans both searching for the cure and making plans to annihilate the ape populations.

As reported by Conskipper last summer, “Marvel Comics hasn’t published a Planet of the Apes comic book since their Planet of the Apes black and white magazine ceased publication in 1977. The standard comic version, Adventures on the Planet of Apes, reprinted the film adaptations from the magazine in color and ended in 1976.”

Some of Marvel’s classic Ape stories will be collected in the upcoming Planet of the Apes Adventures: the Original Marvel Years Omnibus on April 18, just a few weeks after the debut issue of the new series hits stands on April 5.
