Much speculation has taken place since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the reins at the newly formed DC Studios, primarily concerning what previously announced projects would make the cut and what new projects are on the way.
In terms of new projects, there are many on the way, as detailed by Gunn in an official social media statement.
Gunn says that the first stage of the newly reconstituted DCU will be called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and that the entire slate will be released between 2025 and 2027.
The first entries discussed by Gunn will come to the small screen (HBO Max) in the form of the animated Creature Commandos and the live action Peacemaker and Suicide Squad spin-off Waller.
The foundation of Gunn and Safran’s universe will be a young Superman film called Superman: Legacy, currently set to be released on July 11, 2025.
From there it is back to the confines of HBO Max for Greg Berlanti’s Green Lantern series entitled Lanterns, a live-action series that will feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart.
Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch’s The Authority enters the cinematic universe and the DCU proper as a feature film and another HBO series based on the history of Wonder Woman’s Themyscira called Paradise Lost continues the rollout, leading up to a brand new Batman film, The Brave and the Bold, that will feature a team-up between Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne based on Grant Morrison’s run on the comic series.
The first phase ends with three more properties, including Booster Gold getting the HBO Max live-action series treatment, a film adaptation of the recent Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Mat Lopes limited series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and a dark horror film based on the origins of Swamp Thing.
Gunn made it clear in his statement that all of the future DC Studio films and animated and live action television programs will be set in the same universe, and any media that exists outside of the upcoming DCU (like The Batman 2 and Joker 2) will be tagged as “Elseworld” stories.
