Just days after Marvel announced that they reacquired the Planet of the Apes license, they have now confirmed that the first classic material released as part of the new deal will be a Planet of the Apes Adventures: the Original Marvel Years Omnibus in 2023.
Th new omnibus collection will reprint all eleven issues of Marvel’s first Apes series from 1975-76’s Adventures of the Planet of the Apes. The short-lived series consisted of colorized versions ported over from Marvel’s black and white Planet of the Apes magazine which consisted of adaptations of the original Planet of the Apes film and its sequel, Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
Doug Moench scripted the adaptations, with art by Mike Ploog, George Tuska, and Alfredo Alcala.
The omnibus will come with two different covers by E.M. Gist and Gil Kane (classic 1976 variant).
Look for the Apes at your local comic store in April 2023.
This going to be one awfully skinny omnibus. Are they also going to reprint the rest of the material from the Planet of the Apes Magazines?
Yes, it is under 350 pages, so maybe they will, but my guess is that they will save those for later omnibuses.
