The dream of a live-action Sandman series is getting closer to reality with Netflix’s casting announcements for the upcoming adaptation of the Neil Gaiman classic.
Netflix’s Sandman series will star Tom Sturridge as Lord Dream, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, and Asim Chaudhry and Sanjeeve Bhaskar as Abel and Cain respectively.
Gaiman and Allan Heinberg will serve as co-writers on the series, and Heinberg will also serve as the showrunner. David S. Goyer will executive produce the series.
Gaiman stated that “For the last 33 years, the Sandman characters have breathed and walked around and talked in my head. I’m unbelievably happy that now, finally, they get to step out of my head and into reality. I can’t wait until the people out there get to see what we’ve been seeing as Dream and the rest of them take flesh, and the flesh belongs to some of the finest actors out there. This is astonishing, and I’m so grateful to the actors and to all of The Sandman collaborators — Netflix, Warner Bros., DC, to Allan Heinberg and David Goyer, and the legions of crafters and geniuses on the show — for making the wildest of all my dreams into reality.”
The Sandman audio drama will also continue on Audible with Parts II and III coming in the near future. According to an exclusive report by Variety, “The initial 20-episode installment of Audible’s “Sandman” adapted volumes 1-3 of the graphic novel series (“Preludes & Nocturnes,” “The Doll’s House” and “Dream Country”). Part two will cover the “Season of Mists,” “Distant Mirrors,” “A Game of You” and “Convergence” volumes of “The Sandman” series, and the third installment will adapt “Brief Lives” and “Worlds Ends.”
