If you ever pass that bootleg DVD or Blu-ray table at your local convention, you are bound to find a copy of one of the most sought after, maligned, and misremembered relics from your childhood: The Star Wars Holiday Special.
Directors Steve Kozak and Jeremy Coon enter the mysterious world of the Holiday Special in their new documentary, A Disturbance in the Force, with plenty of questions, and few answers, about one of the strangest cultural touchstones in the history of fandom.
How did it happen? Who greenlighted this “project”? What’s the deal with all of the guest stars such as Art Carney and Bea Arthur? These are just some of the many questions that the filmmakers uncover, along with commentary from fellow fans “Weird” Al Yankovic, Kevin Smith, Mick Garris, Seth Green, and dozens of others, as they attempt to get to the heart of the Wookie Life Day nightmare.
A Disturbance in the Force is currently screening in select locations (primarily Alamo Drafthouses), and you can find dates in your area, and also pre-order the film on digital, DVD, and Blu-ray from the official website.
