‘X-Men: Children of the Atom’ Epic Collection Highlights Original Stan Lee and Jack Kirby Stories

The humble beginnings of Marvel’s original mutant team (and future cash cow) the X-Men are contained in the latest reprint of the X-Men: Children of the Atom Epic Collection.

The first twenty-three issues of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s The Uncanny X-Men are represented in the reprinted Epic Collection, which also contains work by Roy Thomas, Alex Toth, Werner Roth, Paul Reinman, Chic Stone, Vince Colletta, Joe Sinnott, and Dick Ayers.

The stories (from 1963 to 1966) introduce the original blue and yellow team of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Ice Man, and the Beast as they combat bigotry and Magneto, Juggernaut, the Sentinels, Quicksilver, the Scarlet Witch, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and Ka-Zar (briefly, before they become friends).

The X-Men: Children of the Atom Epic Collection consists of 520 pages for a suggested retail price of $49.99.

The mutant collection was previously printed in 2014, 2019, and 2020.

  1. That’s the cover of the earlier editions. This year’s reprint is the same art but replaces the Steranko logo with the era-accurate ‘60s logo.
