The first part of Walter Simonson’s Asgard-worthy The Mighty Thor run is collected in the new Thor: The Surtur War Epic Collection.
The Surtur War collects The Mighty Thor #337-356 by Simonson, with additional art by Sal Buscema, Terry Austin, Bob Wiacek, and Carey Rothman.
Beginning in 1983, Simonson’s run opens with the debut of the fan-favorite, hammer-wielding alien Beta Ray Bill, before Malekith makes their lives even more complicated when the Dark Elf seeks to open the Casket of Ancient Winters. Things get even hotter for Thor, Bill, Odin, Balder, and other Asgardians when they must head into the fiery pits of Surtur’s realm for a war for the ages with the angry fire giant.
The collection also includes a fill-in issue by Bob Harras, Bob Layton, and Jackson Guice starring Hercules and Thor, as they attempt to determine who is the stronger deity.
Simonson’s entire Thor run was collected in 2024 in a new edition of The Mighty Thor by Walter Simonson Omnibus. The omnibus was originally published in 2011 and again in 2017.
Thor: The Surtur War Epic Collection consists of 496 pages for a suggested retail price of $54.99.
