Todd McFarlane Shares Details About June’s ‘Spawn’s Universe’ #1

Todd McFarlane will begin to add to his Spawn empire with June’s Spawn’s Universe #1 and he is ready to reveal the art teams for the highly-anticipated upcoming issue.

Spawn’s Universe #1 will contain four different stories by four different artists, including Jim Cheung (the original Spawn), Brett Booth (Gunslinger Spawn), Stephen Segovia (Medieval Spawn), and Marcio Takara (She-Spawn).

McFarlane is excited for the launch of the new titles, and says that he has “…waited almost 30 years to be able to get to this moment. To deliver on ideas, I hope they will grow from this initial seed called Spawn’s Universe #1 into a fully formed world populated with hundreds and hundreds of characters in the near future. The stage will be set with this book, and soon I’ll be launching into new monthly titles for the first time since 1992. I can’t wait to show comic readers all the crazy ideas in my head as well as opening up the floodgate to so many talented creators that have said they’d like to join me on this journey.”

Spawn’s Universe #1 will naturally come in a variety of covers by the likes of J. Scott Campbell, (who will be illustrating a set of four covers featuring the four versions of Spawn depicted in issue one), McFarlane, and Booth. More variant covers will be announced closer to the release date to “…set the stage for three new monthly spin-off Spawn titles: King SpawnGunslinger Spawn, and The Scorched, all releasing nationwide in 2021.”

Image Comics Spawn’s Universe #1, a 52-page one-shot issue, will be available at your local comic shop on Wednesday, June 23 with a retail price of $5.99.
