Following last year’s successful The Death of Superman 30th Anniversary Special, DC Comics is again reuniting some of the original creators from that era of Superman comics to spin a new set of yarns that take place in the “World Without Superman”.
The four replacement Supermen, Superboy, Steel, Eradicator, and Cyborg Superman, are back from the Reign of the Supermen time period and three of the original four creative teams including Dan Jurgens and Brett Breeding, Louise Simonson and Jon Bogdanove, and Karl Kesel, Jerry Ordway, Butch Juice, Tom Grummett and Doug Hazlewood (Travis Moore is the only newcomer of the group) have also returned for the anniversary celebration. Roger Stern, Dennis Janke, and Dennis Rodier are the only creators not returning for the special (the group responsible for Eradictaor Superman).
The framing device for the anthology format opens The Return of Superman 30th Anniversary Special with current Daily Planet editor-in-chief Lois Lane unearthing Perry White’s journals and discovering some untold stories from the time that Metropolis was introduced to a variety of new, different Supermen.
Both the standard cover and a foil variant (also very ’90s) are provided by Dan Jurgens, with a number of variants by other artists as well.
The Return of Superman 30th Anniversary Special will be available as a Halloween treat on October 31.
