The ‘Midnight Suns’ Return to Battle New Magical Adversaries

Marvel’s roughest and toughest supernatural strike team known as the Midnight Suns (no longer spelled with an “o”) will star in a brand new limited series by writer Ethan Sacks and artist Luigi Zagaria this September.

The team’s new iteration will consist of Blade, Wolverine, Kushala the Spirit Rider, Magik, Nico Minoru, and Strange Academy’s Zoe Laveau.

The new five issue mini-series sees a new magical threat “rise” that has some connections to the Sorcerer Supreme’s past and Strange Academy student Zoe Laveau.

Sacks is excited for the opportunity to write a comic that he has always been a fan of and thanked “…editor Tom Groneman for giving me the chance to dabble in this mystical corner of the Marvel Universe. We’re going to conjure up some wild otherworldly action to go along with some themes that have real world resonance. Seeing the first issue pages come in, I can also say artist Luigi Zagaria’s art is going to cast a spell over readers,” he said of his collaborator. “It’s just stunning work. He’s at the top of his game.”

This version of the team seems to resemble more of the roster of the upcoming video game from Firaxas Games (October 7, 2022) than the original “Midnight Sons” (created by Howard Mackie and Andy Kubert) from Ghost Rider #31 (1992) that featured  Hellstrom, Jennifer Kale, Morbius, Werewolf by Night, Doctor Strange, the original flame-headed Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze, and his even hipper early 90’s version Danny Ketch.

The first issue will be in stores on September 14 and you can check out David Nakayama’s ferocious cover below.
