Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial will return to IMAX theaters this summer in celebration of the film’s 40th Anniversary.
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial originally set the world on fire in the summer of 1982 and debuts on the premiere large format screen on August 11, and runs until August 18 in most markets, with multiple showtimes each day.
Megan Colligan, President of IMAX Entertainment, stated (via press release) that “IMAX is thrilled to partner with Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment to offer audiences the opportunity to experience these two iconic films in IMAX for the very first time. Steven Spielberg redefined modern cinema and ushered in a new era of bold, swing-for-the-fences filmmaking, and the IMAX Experience has expanded around the world because of the trail blazed by films like E.T. and Jaws.”
Speaking of Jaws, the big fish will also get the IMAX treatment (and Real 3D) on September 2.
