Superman is still on top when it comes to the most valuable comics of all time, setting a new record with a $9.12 million sale via Heritage Auctions.
The 9.0 CGC copy of Superman #1 bested 2024’s $6 million haul for a copy of the Man of Steel’s first appearance in Action Comics #1.
Heritage described the issue as the “pinnacle of comic collecting”, going on to say that “Not only is this the highest-graded unrestored copy Heritage has ever offered, but it also holds the top position on the CGC census, outranking the likes of several esteemed pedigreed copies including the Mile High and Davis Crippen copies.”
Previous record holders included another copy of Superman #1 ($5.3 million in 2022) and Amazing Fantasy #15 ($3.6 million in 2021).
The rare comic was discovered by three brothers in the attic of their late mother’s house, in a box of old newspaper clippings.
