‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith’ Re-release Finishes Second at Weekend Box Office

Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith used the dark side of the force and nostalgia to accrue an estimated $25.2 million, finishing second overall at the weekend box office.

Revenge of the Sith was re-released in celebration of its 20th Anniversary (in several formats, including, for the first time, 4DX) and earned $42.2 million at the global box office.

Revenge of the Sith landed behind the re-releases of Star Wars: Episode IV-A New Hope ($36 million from the January 1997 Special Edition release) and The Lion King ($30 million from the September 2011 3D release).

Star Wars: Episode I-The Phantom Menace‘s 25th Anniversary re-release made considerably less with only $8.1 million domestically.

Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith will continue to play in theaters until May 1, unless the run is extended due to the success of the re-release.
