Spider-Man and Odysseus combined their might to establish a new weekend box office record with $435 million in total ticket sales.
Sony and Marvel‘s Spider-Man: Brand New Day proved once again that there is no such thing as Spider-Man fatigue, delivering $360 million for the biggest single debut in domestic box office history (besting 2019’s Avengers: Endgame‘s $357 million). Brand New Day also established a new Thursday previews record with an amazing $168 million.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is projected to add another $550 million at the international box office for a $880 million worldwide start.
The Destin Daniel Cretton directed film has benefited from not only the evergreen Spidey-love, but also a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” grade from CinemaScore exit polls.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey remained an epic force at the box office this weekend with an estimated $51 million in its third weekend, with IMAX screens still sold out around the country. With no IMAX screens dedicated to Brand New Day, watch for Nolan’s film to continue to profit throughout the summer and fall.
The rest of the films in theaters this weekend contributed roughly $25 million to the astounding $435 million total (led by Toy Story 5 in third place with $6.2 million).
