The Surfer’s Exile Ends in ‘Silver Surfer: Freedom’ Epic Collection

The start of the Silver Surfer’s longest running solo series is the main focus of the latest edition of the Silver Surfer: Freedom Epic Collection.

Steve Englehart, Marshall Rogers, Joe Staton, Joe Rubinstein, Dave Cockrum, and Jose Marzan, Jr. guide the Surfer out of Earth’s atmosphere and back into the stars in the first 14 issues of 1987’s Silver Surfer ongoing series.

Norinn Radd immediately finds himself in the middle of renewed hostilities between the Kree and Skrull empires and a battle between the Elders of the Universe and Galactus.

In addition to the start of the main series, the Epic Collection also contains some hidden gems including 1982’s Silver Surfer one-shot by John Byrne, Stan Lee, and Tom Palmer, Super-Villain Classics Galactus the Origin (from 1983) which retells the planet-eater’s backstory by Lee, Byrne, Mark Gruenwald, Jack Kirby, Vince Colletta, and George Klein, an existential Surfer story from Epic Illustrated #1 by Lee, John Buscema and Rudy Nebres, and Marvel Fanfare #51 Silver Surfer story by Englehart, Buscema, and Jack Abel that was originally slated to serve as the first issue of the new ongoing series (until the story didn’t match up with Englehart’s plan to free the character from his Earth-bound status).

The Silver Surfer: Freedom Epic Collection was originally released in 2015.

Silver Surfer: Freedom Epic Collection consists of 488 pages for a suggested retail price of $44.99.
