Backed by a string of original programming hits and the acquisition of dozens of new films, Shudder announced that they just passed the million subscriber threshold.
According to the official statement from Shudder, the streaming service saw “…a surge in usage and new memberships..” that started with the debut of the new original series Creepshow last September (the highest rated program in Shudder’s history) and the popularity of the company’s original docuseries Cursed Films, and the frequent The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs live telecasts.
Miguel Penella, AMC Networks SVOD President, gives credit to “The addition of original series and movies turbocharged our growth and turned Shudder into a must-have service for anyone interested in great horror, thriller or supernatural entertainment.”
Another factor in Shudder’s growth has been the increased availability on new platforms and in new territories. Shudder can now be streamed in Australia and New Zealand, as well as the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. Shudder is now widely available on a number of platforms, such as Roku, Charter/Spectrum, DISH, Fire TV, Apple TV, Xbox, and Sling.
