Karama Horne takes readers through an in-world exploration of the most fierce and noble warriors in Wakandan history in Epic Ink’s upcoming Protectors of Wakanda: A History and Training Manual for the Dora Milaje.
The sacred history and secrets of the Dora Milaje are detailed in the book, focusing on everything from the recruitment process, initiation rituals, training, strategy, weapons, and combat techniques of the elite women warriors. Entries and commentary by General Okoye, Princess Shuri, Queen Mother Ramonda, Mistress Zola, Ayo, Aneka, and M’yra provide the history and modern context for the Dora Milaje, and celebrate the greatness of their accomplishments.
Horne was inspired to explore the history of the Wakandan warriors when (as told to The Root) “It dawned on me that the Dora Milaje don’t really have a history in the comics. We see them come in and out, they’re these beautiful bald women who are warriors, but I was like where do they come from, how do they get picked? We know they come from all over Wakanda, but what does that look like? And that’s what I decided to explore in this book.”
The hardcover Protectors of Wakanda: A History and Training Manual for the Dora Milaje will be available at your local book store or comic shop on September 20, 2022, for a suggested retail price of $22.99.
