‘New Mutants: Fallen Angels’ Epic Collection Highlights Split in Young Team

Thigs are never easy for mutants, especially if you are New Mutants.

The teen mutant squad continues to struggle with their powers and interpersonal relationships in the New Mutants: Fallen Angels Epic Collection.

The Epic Collection includes The New Mutants #45-54, The New Mutants Annual #3, and Fallen Angels #1-8, all originally published in 1986 and 1987.

All stories are written by Chris Claremont and Jo Duffy, with art by Jackson “Butch” Guice, Bret Blevins, Kevin Nowlan, Alan Davis, Rick Leonardi, Kerry Gammill, Marie Severin, Joe Staton, Sal Buscema, Kyle Baker, P. Craig Russell, Val Mayerik, John Beatty, Kevin Nowlan, Paul Neary, Dan Green, Tom Palmer, Tony DeZuniga, and Terry Austin.

The team faces plenty of problems from the fallout of the Mutant Massacre event, their headmaster Magneto, evil versions of themselves from the future, mutant-hunting Sentinels, the cybernetic Magus, a rebellion of demons in Limbo, and the Hellfire Club and their teenage Hellions.

The title story (and limited series) Fallen Angels begins after a soccer game gets a little too intense, and Sunspot injures Cannonball, forcing Bobby to run away from the team. While away from the X-Mansion, Bobby starts a new, much more villainous team of mutants called the Fallen Angels with Chance, Ariel, Warlock, Madrox, Siryn, Boom-Boom, the Vanisher, and even Devil Dinosaur before making amends with Cannonball and returning to the New Mutants.

The New Mutants: Fallen Angels Epic Collection consists of 496 pages for a suggested retail price of $44.99.
