Stephanie Phillips and Lee Garbett’s upcoming Daredevil series will introduce a new adversary for the protector of Hell’s Kitchen by the name of Omen.
Phillips told Marvel.com that Omen embodies both noir and horror elements, and said Omen “…shows up looking for Matt Murdock but finds Daredevil. While Daredevil tries to contend physically with Omen, part of the mystery is how Matt Murdock is so tangled in Omen’s web. When writing Omen, I took inspiration from Gothic literature and Greek tragedies. He’s both monstrous and tragic, and I’m excited for readers to start unraveling his mystery alongside Daredevil as the story progresses.”
Phillips also believes that new first issue launch is a good place for new and lapsed Daredevil readers to get on board.
“Lee and I are longtime fans of the character, so you’re absolutely going to get familiar faces and elements of the character that made us fall in love with him. But we’re also setting up a new status quo, new characters, and a new entryway for readers to fall in love with Daredevil alongside us. We’re not ignoring any of the previous stories, but we get to start readers off fresh and really develop something that is uniquely ours” Phillips said.
Daredevil #1 will also be the second Marvel title sold in a blind bag after December’s Ultimate Endgame #1. Similar to Ultimate Endgame #1, Daredevil #1 will come in a special sealed bags that could contain any of the issue’s many covers, including rare variant covers exclusive to Blind Bags and hand-drawn, ultra-rare one-of-a-kind sketch covers by surprise contributors.
