During The Walt Disney Company’s 2020 Investor Day presentation by Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer announced that role of T’Challa will not be recast in the upcoming Black Panther II film.
Feige did not go so far as to say that there would not be a new character wearing the Black Panther suit made famous by the late Chadwick Boseman, but he did state that “…the sequel will continue to explore the incomparable world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced.”
Speculation has been high that T’Challa’s sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) would assume the mantle of Black Panther (as she does for some time in the Marvel Comics iteration of the character), but no official announcements have been made confirming this decision.
Ryan Coogler will return to direct the sequel, which is currently scheduled for release on July 8, 2022.
