The comic that contributed to 1977’s Star Wars mania returns to modern comic store shelves this week in the form of a new Facsimile Edition Foil Variant.
Star Wars #1 (2025 Facsimile Foil Variant Edition) by George Lucas, Roy Thomas, Howard Chaykin, and Marie Severin captures all of the excitement of the first issue and includes all of the original Marvel house ads, advertisements for Charles Atlas and cheap back issues, and two full page examinations of the “new” film.
The two prose pages summarize and hype the film for those picking up the comic one full month before the release of Star Wars to theaters in May of 1977 and also share the behind the comic adaptation by Thomas.
The comic wasn’t the only media to predate the release of the film, as the novelization was actually released months early in 1976 to generate fan buzz in the sci-fi community.
