Marvel’s Man-Thing Gets His First ‘Marvel Masterworks’ Volume

The Man-Thing may not be the cleanest of Marvel’s pantheon of characters (or monsters for that matter), but the swampy beast finally gets the prestige treatment in his first Marvel Masterworks volume.

Marvel Masterworks: The Man-Thing Vol. 1 collects the monster’s original stories from Astonishing Tales #12-13, Adventure into Fear #10-19, Man-Thing #1, Marvel Two-in-One #1, and Man-Thing’s first appearance in a story from Savage Tales #1.

All stories are written by Steve Gerber, Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, and Len Wein, with art by Val Mayerik, Gray Morrow, John Buscema, Neal Adams, Rich Buckler, Howard Chaykin, Jim Starlin, Gil Kane, Dan Adkins, Jim Mooney, Frank Bolle, Chic Stone, Frank McLaughlin, Sal Trapani, and Joe Sinnott.

The volume also includes an introduction by recent Man-Thing writer Steve Orlando, who praises the work of Gerber, who took over the original swamp monster concept, and created a bizarre unique narrative, with classic EC Comics-style morality tales, biting social commentary, and an unusual cast of supporting characters over the course of his run on the title.

Marvel Masterworks: The Man-Thing Vol. 1 consists of 312 pages for a suggested cover price of $75.00.
