Jordan Peele knows how to make viewers laugh and scream, which is the exact formula that Syfy’s Scare Tactics employed on 114 episodes over the course of ten years.
So it makes perfect sense that Peele decided to reboot the hidden camera fright fest through his Monkeypaw Productions (the companies first non-scripted production, coming to USA Network starting on October 4 at 10pm ET) and the producer is quick to point out that the new series will follow the “Jaws Rule.”
Peele said “I think quite often what happens in a horror film — in many horror films that maybe work less for me — is like, ‘Oh, the second you see the monster you’re like [sigh]. OK. That’s kind of lamer than I thought the monster was gonna look like. OK, well, alright. We’ll deal with it.’
“But it’s the Jaws rule, right?” he continued. “Don’t show that monster until late.”
To add even more authenticity to the reboot, original series’ co-creator Scott Hallock was on set “for every episode”, helping to oversee the encounters with the possessed, aliens, zombies, and all manner of horror tropes.
Scare Tactics will debut simultaneously across Bravo, SYFY and E! on October 4 as well.
